About the Role
The British School of Tenerife (BST) is looking for an inspiring Key Stage 2 Teacher to join our all-through international school. This is a unique role that offers the opportunity for outstanding practitioners to take on Subject or Phase Leadership responsibilities.

Whether you are a classroom specialist or an aspiring leader, you will play a vital role in delivering the English National Curriculum to our diverse, high-EAL student body. You will focus on closing language gaps through explicit oracy and vocabulary instruction while fostering a kind, respectful, and high-achieving learning environment.

Why Join Us?

  • Career Progression: Scope for formal leadership roles (Subject or Phase) with designated leadership time.
  • Professional Growth: Access to BSO-aligned CPD and coaching cycles.
  • Stunning Location: Live and work in Tenerife, delivering a world-class British education in a beautiful Mediterranean setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • High-Quality Teaching: Plan and deliver engaging KS2 lessons that challenge and support EAL, SEND, and more-able pupils.
  • Language Focus: Explicitly teach vocabulary, oracy, and reading strategies to support our international cohort.
  • Assessment & Tracking: Use school tracking systems (GL/CAT4) to identify gaps and implement targeted interventions.
  • Collaboration: Work with colleagues across the school to ensure curriculum continuity and smooth transitions into KS3.
  • Leadership (Optional): If appointed to a lead role, you will drive curriculum sequencing, coach peers, and lead phase-wide CPD.

Requirements

•    Qualified teacher status (UK or equivalent) with recent KS2 classroom experience.
•    Strong subject and curriculum knowledge for primary age children, with proven ability to teach reading, writing and maths effectively.
•    Experience supporting EAL learners and adapting lessons to develop language and oracy.
•    Good assessment practice and experience using data to inform teaching.
•    Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach; sensitivity to cultural and linguistic diversity.
•    Commitment to safeguarding and high professional standards.

Person specification — desirable
•    Experience leading a subject, year group or phase (formal or informal).
•    Training in systematic synthetic phonics (e.g., Read Write Inc.) or evidence of implementing phonics strategies into KS2.
•    Bilingual English/Spanish skills or experience in international settings.

How to Apply

Please submit CV and a covering letter addressing the person specification and indicating whether you are applying for classroom duties only or classroom + leadership responsibility. Include two professional referees. Shortlisted candidates may teach a KS2 sample lesson and attend interview.
