We are seeking an outstanding Assistant Principal (Primary) to join Muna British Academy in Abu Dhabi, commencing in August 2026.

Responsibilities
Job Purpose:
The Assistant Principal – Pastoral (Primary Phase) provides strategic and operational leadership for pastoral care across the primary school. The post holder will lead on areas including safeguarding, behaviour, wellbeing, and school events, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment in which all students can succeed.
Working closely with the Head of Primary, and leaders across the whole-through school, the Assistant Principal will contribute to whole-school development including curriculum design while maintaining a strong focus on student wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
Safeguarding and Child Protection
- Act as Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) for the Primary Phase (or Deputy DSL as appropriate)
- Ensure safeguarding policies and procedures meet ADEK, UAE, and international best-practice requirements
- Lead safeguarding training for staff and ensure consistent implementation
- Manage concerns, referrals, and records with confidentiality and professionalism
- Liaise with external agencies, parents, and senior leaders as required
Behaviour and Wellbeing
- Lead and implement the Primary Behaviour Policy, promoting positive behaviour and high expectations
- Support staff with behaviour management strategies and restorative approaches
- Monitor behaviour data, identifying trends and implementing targeted interventions
- Promote pupil wellbeing, emotional regulation, and resilience
- Support children with additional pastoral or social-emotional needs
Pastoral Leadership
- Provide leadership and line management to pastoral staff, including phase leaders, SEN, and wellbeing teams as appropriate
- Support class teachers in managing pastoral concerns and parental communication
- Build strong relationships with students, staff, and families
- Ensure consistent pastoral practices across all primary year groups
Strategic and Whole-School Contribution
- Contribute to the school’s strategic development plan, particularly in pastoral care and wellbeing
- Work collaboratively with secondary colleagues to ensure continuity across phases
- Support inspection processes, including self-evaluation and quality assurance
- Undertake additional leadership responsibilities as directed by the Head of Primary
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in education or B.Sc. degree with PGCE is essential. Desirable Master's degree
Minimum Experience:
- At least 6 years' experience, including 4 consecutive years teaching performance exceeds standards and expectations as evidenced by performance appraisal
- At least 2 years' experience in middle leadership role
- Experience of leading school initiatives that have led to improvement in standards and achievement.
- Experience working with parents and external agencies.
