King’s College, Soto de Viñuelas, a leading British international school in Madrid, is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and dedicated Secondary Teacher of English to join our outstanding team from late August. This is a fantastic opportunity for a passionate educator with a strong background in English Language and Literature to inspire students and contribute to a high-achieving, supportive, and forward-thinking department.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Deliver high-quality English Language and Literature lessons across KS3–KS5, following the English National Curriculum.
  • Plan and teach engaging, varied lessons that challenge and support all learners, including those with English as an additional language.
  • Prepare students for IGCSE English Language and Literature examinations, where applicable.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of a creative and dynamic KS3 English curriculum.
  • Use data to monitor student progress and adapt teaching to meet individual needs.
  • Support language acquisition and literacy development in ESL students.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of curriculum changes, assessment practices, and teaching methodologies.
  • Participate in departmental planning, meetings, and collaborative teaching initiatives.
  • If applicable, deliver Theory of Knowledge or IB English A Language and Literature / IB English B.
  • Promote a love of reading, writing, and effective communication across the school.
  • Contribute to the wider life of the school through enrichment activities, clubs, and school events.
  • Maintain clear communication with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Uphold the values, standards, and expectations of King’s College as a professional educator.

 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • Experience teaching English Language and Literature. 
  • Excellent working knowledge of the English National Curriculum and recent developments 
  • Experience teaching IGCSE English Language and Literature
  • Ability to deliver a varied and engaging KS3 curriculum to KS3 pupils. 
  • An understanding of language acquisition or experience teaching pupils with ESL.
  • Ability to teach Theory of Knowledge is an advantage.
  • Ability to teach English A Language and Literature and/or English B
  • Experience teaching IB English B.
